EEB Academic Ineligibility Policy

Students are permitted to repeat up to two major preparation* courses if they do not receive grades of C- or better, repetition of a third major preparation* courses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Declared students who receive grades below a C- in three major preparation* courses–either in separate courses or repetitions of the same course–are ineligible to continue with their declared EEB Major, and students will be coded as Undeclared. In such cases, students will have the opportunity to submit an appeal. If a student receives three (3) grades below a C- in any major preparation* courses-either in separate courses or repetition of the same course- prior to being declared for an EEB Major, they will not be eligible to declare major, and there is no opportunity to appeal.

All EEB students are monitored at the end of each term to assess if they are meeting the minimum requirements of a C- or better in major preparation* coursework as stated above. Any student who receives a C- or below in a major preparation* course will be notified via Message Center.

*major preparation courses refers to all of the lower division courses required by our EEB majors taken at UCLA. Transfer students will not be not held to the Academic Ineligibility policy since their major preparation courses are completed at their previous institution(s).

An example of a completed Appeal Degree Plan can be found here.

Appeal approval is granted on a case-by-case basis and is individualized to each student. Appeals are not guaranteed to be approved and it is strongly recommended for ineligible students to meet with a College Advisor to ensure they have a back-up major if their appeal is not approved.

ALL APPEALS ARE DUE BY THEIR LISTED DEADLINES. IF YOU DO NOT MEET THIS DEADLINE AND HAVE NO DOCUMENTED EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCE WE WILL NOT MAKE AN EXCEPTION!
